Otoplasty

Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that aims to correct the ears. This surgery is often referred to as “protruding ears” and aims to give a person’s ears a more aesthetic appearance. Otoplasty is usually performed to correct the shape, size or position of the pinna.

Otoplasty may be considered for the following conditions:

  1. Auricle Deformity:
    • It can be applied to people who have congenital or developmental deformities in the shape of the auricle.
  2. Ear Asymmetry:
    • If one ear is noticeably different from the other or there is significant asymmetry between the ears, otoplasty can correct this condition.
  3. Protruding Ears:
    • If the auricle protrudes significantly from the head, this protrusion can be corrected with otoplasty.
  4. Ear Tip Deformity:
    • It can be done in cases where the tips of the ears are abnormally large or deformed.

Otoplasty surgery is usually performed during childhood or adolescence, but is also suitable for adults. In children, surgery is usually performed after the pinna is fully developed, i.e. after the child’s age and ear structure have become apparent. However, each case is evaluated depending on the patient’s individual needs and condition.

Otoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, although in some cases local anesthesia or sedation may also be used. The surgeon makes special incisions and, if necessary, adjusts the cartilage tissue to correct the shape of the pinna and achieve the desired result.

Otoplasty can often increase a patient’s self-confidence and improve facial balance.
