Eyelid Aesthetics

Eyelid aesthetics, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to correct or remove sagging, excess skin, and fatty tissue in the eyelid area. Although eyelid aesthetics is generally preferred for aesthetic reasons, it can also be performed to correct conditions that affect vision due to sagging eyelids.

Eyelid aesthetics can generally be considered for the following situations:

  1. Sagging Eyelids:
    • Due to aging, genetic factors or various other reasons, eyelids can sag, causing a person to appear old or tired.
  2. Excess Skin and Fat Accumulation in the Upper Eyelids:
    • Excess skin or fat accumulated in the upper eyelids can prevent the eyelid from closing properly and narrow the visual field.
  3. Bags and Wrinkles on the Lower Eyelids:
    • Fat accumulation, bags and wrinkles in the lower eyelids can cause a person to look old or tired.
  4. Vision Problems:
    • Sagging or excess tissue in the eyelid can affect vision. In this case, eyelid aesthetics can be performed for both aesthetic and functional purposes.

Eyelid aesthetics is usually performed under general or local anesthesia. There are two basic types:

  1. Blepharoplasty for Upper Eyelids:
    • In upper eyelid aesthetics, excess skin and fat tissue are removed, muscles are arranged and the eyelid is shaped.
  2. Blepharoplasty for Lower Eyelids:
    • It is a procedure performed to remove bags in the lower eyelids and improve skin texture.

Eyelid surgery usually has a quick recovery time, but swelling and bruising may be visible in the first few days. Full recovery can take several weeks.

Individuals considering eyelid surgery should have a comprehensive consultation with a plastic surgeon to determine if this surgery is right for them. Every patient’s situation is different, so the surgical plan is determined by individual needs and expectations.
