Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that aims to remove unwanted fat tissue from the body by suction or vacuuming. Also known as liposuction or lipoplasty, this procedure is usually performed for aesthetic purposes and is used to correct, shape or reduce fat accumulation in certain areas of the body. Liposuction is not a method of losing weight; it is usually a treatment aimed at removing stubborn fat in certain areas of the person.
Liposuction is usually applied to the following areas:
- Abdomen: This is a frequently preferred area to reduce fat accumulation in the abdominal area. Abdominal liposuction can often be combined with tummy tuck surgeries or other aesthetic procedures.
- Waist and Hip: Fat accumulations in the waist and hip area are a common area of application for individuals who want to correct their body lines.
- Back: Fat accumulations in the back area are corrected with liposuction to make the contours of the back more prominent.
- Thighs and Legs: Fat accumulations on the inner or outer surfaces of the thighs often lead to liposuction for aesthetic purposes.
- Arms: Fat accumulations on the inner or outer surfaces of the arms can be treated with liposuction, especially for the purpose of correcting sagging or deformities.
- Face and Neck: Fat deposits in the face and neck area can often be treated with liposuction or other aesthetic procedures.
Liposuction can usually be performed under general or local anesthesia. The surgeon suctions the fat tissue with a thin tube (cannula), then removes the suctioned fat from the body. With developing technology, liposuction methods have also diversified and improved.
Liposuction is usually planned based on a person’s overall health, body type, and aesthetic goals. However, as with any surgical procedure, liposuction carries certain risks and should be performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. Post-operative recovery may be required, and it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions.
