Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is a surgical procedure performed to reduce breast tissue and breast size. Known in medical literature as “reduction mammaplasty” surgery is preferred not only for aesthetic reasons but also to alleviate physical discomfort caused by large and heavy breasts. Large breasts can cause problems such as back pain, neck pain, posture disorders and limited clothing options. By reducing and lifting the breast, it is made to appear younger and in harmony with the body.
The general stages of breast reduction surgery are:
- Patient Evaluation:
-
- An evaluation is made regarding the patient’s breast size, health status, general body structure and aesthetic goals. In addition, necessary tests are performed to evaluate the effects of surgery on the patient’s health.
- Surgery Planning:
-
- The techniques that will be used during surgery will be determined. This includes how the breast tissue and skin will be shaped, the position of the nipple, and how the breast will be reduced overall.
- Anesthesia:
-
- The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, so the patient is unconscious and does not feel any pain during the surgery.
- Incisions and Tissue Removal:
-
- An incision is usually made under the breast, and additional incisions may be made in other areas as needed. Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed.
- Nipple Placement:
-
- If the nipple is positioned low, it can be moved upwards to create a more youthful and lifted appearance.
- Stitches and Wound Care:
-
- Once the incisions are closed, stitches are applied and a healing process begins. The stitches in the surgical area will heal over time and become less noticeable. Most of the time, they are barely noticeable.
Breast reduction surgery can vary depending on the patient’s specific situation. The recovery process after surgery varies from patient to patient, but generally allows the patient to return to social activities within a few weeks.
It is important for patients to consult their surgeon regularly and follow his instructions before and after surgery.
